Music Parents' Association

The Barrie Central Music Parents want to welcome all parents of music students, and extend a special welcome to parents whose students are just beginning the music program. We are looking forward to another year of learning, fun, friendships and accomplishments for our Barrie Central music students.

The music program has been going strong at Barrie Central for 68 years. Parents of the music students have a long tradition of supporting this program. We seek your help again this year. There are lots of ways to help us; please do whatever fits your schedule and interests.

Parents meet the last Thursday of every month at 6:30 pm during Senior Band Rehearsals.

Q. Doesn't the school or the School Board fund and maintain the music program?
A. Funds are provided for teacher salaries, and classroom space is provided. There is a budget for equipment and text books. There are, however, costs that run beyond what the budget will provide. For example, money raise by the Parents' Association is used to repair instruments, provide transportation for events such as MusicFest, entrance fees for festivals, purchase additional equipment, and provide scholarships both within the school and in the community. In addition, the Parents' Association tries to manage a small subsidy for band members when the band travels, which traditionally happens every other year.

Q. How can I help?
A. Attend some of our meetings, volunteer at some of our events, buy some Zehrs cards.

Q. What are Zehrs cards?
A. This is our very successful and easy fund raising program. Purchase a card for $50 or $100, it can be used for purchases at Zehrs, No Frills, and many other grocery stores. The Music Parents make 5% from the sale of these cards.

Q. When are the meetings held?
A. Meetings are the first Thursday of each month.
